Dr Swati Sinkar is a highly experienced and dedicated General and Paediatric Ophthalmologist who practices with a goal to provide exceptional levels of patient-focused care.
She offers clinical expertise in cataract surgery, pterygium surgery, Eyelid surgery, squint surgery, glaucoma treatment, macular degeneration and paediatric ophthalmic conditions.
Dr Swati Sinkar completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2003 and Ophthalmology training in 2009, before moving to Australia.
Since arriving, she has worked extensively in multiple hospitals in South Australia and interstate and was awarded Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2015. She completed her fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology, a clinical specialty she is passionate about, at Princess Margaret Hospital and Lion’s Eye Institute, Perth, WA.
As she believes in giving back to the community, she provides outreach services to the Paediatric population in Mount Gambier in the southernmost part of South Australia and adult population in the SA Riverland region. She has always been passionate about prevention of paediatric blindness with a strong focus on early diagnosis and treatment. As a step forward towards her passion, she established and currently leads the Neonatal screening services for Retinopathy of Prematurity (a blinding condition in premature infants if not detected and treated early) at Lyell McEwin Hospital and is the only Paediatric Ophthalmologist who provides these services to the fast-growing population in the Northern Adelaide suburbs.
She is actively involved in mentoring of budding Ophthalmology trainees as part of the RANZCO Ophthalmology Training programme since 2017, up-skilling and education of general practitioners, medical students, postgraduate trainees, optometrists and ophthalmic nurses under her role as Visiting Specialist Ophthalmologist at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Senior Consultant and Clinical supervisor of the RANZCO trainee at Modbury and Lyell McEwin hospitals and Clinical Lecturer in University of Adelaide.
She also regularly participates in teaching of International Ophthalmology graduate trainees from countries like Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia under her role as a Visionary with Sight For All.
She values and practices evidence-based medicine and has published in numerous peer-reviewed international journals.
With her professional commitments, one young child and her husband Ninad, Dr Swati is kept pretty busy. During her time off, she loves cooking, travel and enjoys watching cricket with her family and friends. She is also a keen badminton player when her busy schedule allows.
