Ways to Prioritise Eye Safety in the Holidays

December 18, 2024

As we enter the holiday season, our eye safety must also be our top priority, along with our holiday spirits! This blog will explore important eye-safety tips that are more prevalent during our Christmas getaways:

1. Proper sun protection: A summer Christmas comes with hotter and sunnier days, which cannot be avoided during travelling for a vacation. While families carry a supply of sunscreen, many forget that the eyes are just as important to look after, especially those with a lack of melanin in their eyes. Your suncare routine should also include wearing sunglasses, especially during those long road trips, to keep those eyes away from sun damage!

2. Protective eyewear during tree-cutting: The Christmas season also involves many families personalising their Christmas trees with a few adjustments, including tree-cutting. Of course, this activity can be hazardous to the eyes, with many sharp areas that can poke into the eye. This is why protective eyewear like safety goggles are greatly recommended, to avoid getting poked with a pine needle or other decorations.

3. Purchasing gifts safe for the eyes: When buying special gifts, it is important to refrain from buying presents hazardous for the eyes, such as paintball guns, to avoid eye injury. Another option could be buying safety goggles to accompany such presents while also following age requirements if such presents are meant for children. Parental supervision is also greatly recommended if children play with such toys, ensuring they get their safety eye gear on! We hope that these three tips have informed you of the importance of eye safety even in the holiday season and what to do to prioritise eye health.
